Though the Brückenvilla is at the heart of Monschau, Germany, it is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the town. This baroque villa is on the other bank of the Ruhr River and is accessible only by a private footbridge.

The mansard roof is one of the key features of Baroque architecture. A mansard roof is almost identical to a gambrel. Both have two slopes on each side - a short but sloping top section and a steep but longer lower section.

In contrast with a gambrel roof, a mansard has slopes on all four sides. The roof of the Brückenvilla is an example of a mansard.

An elegant bay window with a bell roof and gable dormers complement its mansard roof.

This is the private footbridge leading to the villa.
