MAUCHARTISCHES HAUS, HAFENMARKT 1, ESSLINGEN AM NECKAR
The scroll patterns painted on the compartments of the half-timbered gable of Hafenmarkt 1 in Esslingen am Neckar, Germany, create a whimsical effect. These motifs, typical during the Renaissance period, feature spiral or scroll-shaped ornaments called volutes and incomplete circles.
Some of the volutes appeared twisted, giving them a three-dimensional look.

The house was constructed between 1363 and 1364 and expanded in 1486.
Around 1598 to 1599, Jacob Mauchart had the structure restored and carried out the execution of the scroll patterns on the compartments of the gable. Also, the half-timbered part of the gable was painted Amberg yellow, a popular color during the 16th century. The house was named after Jacob Mauchart -- Mauchartisches Haus.
