Tiedexer Straße 22, Einbeck

Two distinctive features of half-timbered houses in Einbeck, Germany, are particularly noteworthy at Tiedexer Straße 22, a three-story late Gothic structure.

The first feature is the attic space with narrow dormers.
The steep roofs of the dormers served primarily as
ventilation slots for drying barley, wheat, and hops,
which were the ingredients for brewing beer.
Also, the attic was used as storage.

The second feature is the high and wide archways of houses that had licenses to brew beer. Brewing pans and carts were driven through those arched entrances.

The archway at Tiedexer Straße 22 has wooden ribbons.

Here, the cantilevered floors are supported by cleats. Cleats are triangular solid wood brackets.
