Altes Rathaus Dillenburg

The Altes Rathaus Dillenburg in Germany is an elegant three-story Baroque building featuring a half-timbered upper floor. The influence of Baroque architecture is reflected in its design, particularly in the mirrored repetitions of windows.

The town hall stands on the site of a previous one that was destroyed by a fire in 1723. The new town hall was erected a year later.

Some notable elements that add vertical emphasis to the building are the cupola, finial, and weather vane. A cupola is a small dome-like structure placed on top of the roof. Some cupolas have finials. A finial or a hip knob is a decorative ornament placed at the top or end of a pole.

The main entrance of the town hall features a portal adorned with a cartouche. A cartouche is a decorative frame commonly used in paintings and coats of arms.
