Ober-Bessinger Pforte, Lich

The Ober-Bessinger Pforte is a unique gatehouse in Lich, Germany - it is half-timbered! This previously plastered gatehouse, built in 1782, is now symmetrically constructed. A passage about two-story high cuts through the middle of the gatehouse.

Would you believe that this half-timbered gatehouse is inhabitable? It used to be a town hall and schoolhouse.

Currently, it is a pilgrim hostel, but other people can stay there overnight.

A multi-sided bell roof crowns the two-story tower called a roof turret, which, on the other hand, is a small tower on top of the ridge of Ober-Bessinger Pforte and crowns the hip roof.

The hip roof has a finial or hip knob to emphasize the top of the structure.
