Ober-Bessinger Pforte, Lich
Interestingly, Ober-Bessinger Pforte, a half-timbered gatehouse in Lich, Germany, once served as a
town hall and schoolhouse. This previously plastered gatehouse was built in 1782.
A passage about a two-story high cut through the middle of the gatehouse.
A multi-sided bell roof crowns the two-story tower, commonly referred to as a roof turret. A roof turret is a small tower on top of the ridge of the hip roof of the gatehouse. The hip roof has a finial or hip knob that emphasizes the top of the structure.
Currently, Ober-Bessinger Pforte is used as a pilgrim hostel, but it also accommodates other guests who wish to stay overnight.
