Rödelseer Tor, Iphofen

The saying "never judge a book by its cover" applies to Rödelseer Tor,
a two-story medieval gate in
Iphofen, Germany.

When I first saw the Rödelseer Tor from Rödelseer Straße, it seemed ordinary. However, after walking a few meters toward Mittagsturm, the town's tower, I was surprised to see that the gate was designed in a half-timbered style.

The Rödelseer Tor that exists today was not originally planned in that manner. First, there was only the semi-circular tower. Over time, a conical or pointed roof made of hollow tiles was added. Eventually, a gatekeeper's house and a residential house were constructed adjacent to it.
