
The striking feature of this half-timbered house at Kirchstraße 24 in Besigheim, Germany, is its mezzanine, which was considered modern during the time it was built.

A mezzanine is an intermediate floor level placed halfway up the wall or between the two main floors of a house.

Another feature of a mezzanine is a low ceiling. Unlike a standard floor, a mezzanine is partly open to the space below. Therefore, it is not counted as one of the floors in a house.
