Oberstadt 23, Lich

It is a relief to see that the serpentines climbing the facade of Oberstadt 23 in Lich, Germany, are merely struts! These almost floor-high struts are curved in an S-shaped or wavy pattern. They contrast with the usual straight horizontal or vertical struts. Despite that, serpentine struts are both aesthetically pleasing and structurally sound.

Aside from serpentine struts, curved saltires or St. Andrew's crosses decorate this three-story half-timbered house. A St. Andrew's cross has an X-shape.

The gray door features three evenly spaced panels.

The top panel is divided into four panes and has frosted glass.

The two lower panels have escutcheon-shaped decor. An escutcheon is the shield where the coat of arms is displayed.

Above the door is a transom window with frosted glass, just like the one in the panel. A simple transom, a horizontal beam, divides the door from the transom window.
